Looking to take some breath-taking footage from a whole new perspective? Innovative company DJI has created remote controlled mini aircrafts that are equipped with cameras to allow people to see the view from the sky. With the Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter with Gimbal-Stabilized 14MP, 1080p Camera ($1299), you can take your own amazing aerial photos and videos.
The Phantom 2 Vision+ comes with two essential parts, the Quadcopter itself and the remote controller/mount. The Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter uses a GPS-based navigation system for flight stability and contains a manual mode and an autopilot mode that will keep the Quadcopter in a fixed position for smooth and still photos.
With the Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter, this aircraft has a 5200 mAh battery slot that allows for 25 minutes of flight time. However, if you’re worried about what happens after those 25 minutes or worried about losing signal from the remote controller during flight, the Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter is armed with smart technology that will activate a “Return to Home” feature if the quadcopter cannot find a signal from the controller. If the aircraft also exceeds the control range distance from the remote controller (loses signal from the controller because the aircraft is too far), the “Return to Home” feature will also activate. When this feature activates, the aircraft will make its way back to its original “home position” (which is set during the GPS process) and it will descend to the ground and then turn itself off. In addition, the Quadcopter comes with LED lights that will change colors to indicate the status of the aircraft such as if the battery is running low or if the remote control’s is losing signal.
As for the Phantom 2 Vision+ remote controller/mount, to actually move the aircraft, there are left and right joysticks. The left joystick controls the throttle (up/down) and the rotation while the right joystick controls the side to side and up and down tilts. Additionally, the camera that is attached to the Quadcopter is actually controlled via an app that is available for iOS and Android devices. On the remote controller, there is an area where you can attach your smartphone to the controller which will allow you to see what the Quadcopter camera is currently seeing. With the app, you can edit camera settings, check remaining flight time, take photos, start and stop video recordings, and tilt the Quadcopter’s camera for a more desirable angle.
